נָכ֣וֹן לִבִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים אָשִׁ֥ירָה וַ֝אֲזַמְּרָ֗ה אַף־כְּבוֹדִֽי׃

My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing and make music
with all my soul.

TURIA STARK

Student Cantor

Currently a senior cantorial student at the Academy for Jewish Religion (based in Yonkers, NY), Turia Stark anticipates ordination in 2025. Originally from Massachusetts, she holds a master’s degree in Music (Vocal Performance) from The Boston Conservatory, and a dual bachelor’s degree in Music and Hispanic Studies, summa cum laude, from Wheaton College Massachusetts. In 2023 Turia was the recipient of the "Rabbi Hershel J. Matt Creative Liturgy Award," presented by the Association of Rabbis and Cantors.

One of Turia’s strengths is her musical versatility. A seasoned cantorial soloist well-versed in both contemporary and traditional Jewish repertoire, she is equally comfortable singing in styles ranging from Bach to Broadway, from ballads to folk. Before delving into Jewish music, Turia extensively performed classical, opera, and oratorio repertoire in Boston, New York City, Atlanta, Montgomery (AL), and in southern Spain. A former Spanish teacher, she has a particular love for Ladino music as well.

In addition to her former career as a classroom teacher, Turia has broad experience as an educator, including college student media adviser, children’s choir director, B-mitzvah tutor, and religious school music specialist. For several years she also taught Voice as Adjunct Faculty at Huntingdon College (Montgomery, AL).

In July 2024 Turia began serving as full-time Cantorial Soloist of Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester. From 2010-2024 Turia was Student Cantor/Cantorial Soloist of Temple Beth Or in Montgomery, AL. For samples of Turia’s singing from the bimah, please visit the Videos & Music page.
